About the Author

Susan Greenwald, M.A. Ed., has degrees in special education from the University of Arizona and Arizona State University. She is an educator with many years of successful teaching experience. Susan has written five books which help children learn and master math facts. She believes that after demonstrating understanding of computation, students should be taught a way to memorize math facts. Memorization, or fluency, will help your children succeed in higher-level math. No more counting on fingers, using number lines or charts to get answers. Her program was published in 1999 by Teacher Created Resources in the book How to Teach Math Facts.

Two other math facts workbooks were published by Greenwald’s company, Longevity Publishing, in 2006 and 2008 respectively.

Two Plus Two Is Not Five: Easy Methods to Learn Addition and Subtraction focuses on giving children tricks and strategies to learn and master addition and subtraction facts.  Five Times Five Is Not Ten: Make Multiplication Easy  has all the strategies to help your students learn and memorize multiplication facts. Both workbooks have many practice and review pages. This is another way these books help with math facts mastery.

In 2006, Two Plus Two Is Not Five won First Place in the Workbook category of the Evvy Book AwardsFive Times Five Is Not Ten was listed as a Resource for Successful Teaching in the January 2009 issue of Learning Magazine . This books was also an Award-Winning Finalist in the Children’s Educational category of the USA Book NewsNational Best Books 2008 Awards.

Addition and Subtraction: Beyond Math Facts  was published by Longevity Publishing in 2012. It was designed to help any age student use knowledge of math facts to learn how to add and subtract with and without regrouping. The book includes word math problems.

Ten Divided by Five Is Not Five: Using Multiplication to Make Division Easy includes word math. It will help your children learn division through a review of multiplication facts. This book, like the others, is available in many educational stores, bookstores, and online stores around the U.S.

Greenwald taught special education in both private and public schools including the Cherry Creek School District in Colorado and the Paradise Valley School District in Arizona. Through her private practice, she  worked with elementary and middle school students of all levels and abilities. The methods, strategies, and worksheets in her books developed from a need to help her own students succeed in math, and work for students of all abilities.

Greenwald has presented at a variety of conferences:

The author resides with her husband in New Jersey. She has three adult children who mastered math facts at a very early age and grandchildren who are learning math facts with her program. She enjoys spending time with her five grandchildren.

Testimonials

Longevity Publishing
This is such a great series. My special needs child used both the Addition/Subtraction and the Multiplication/Division books and mastered the skills by doing one lesson each a day. The lessons are relatively easy and progress the student very slowly and systematically. There was almost no frustration. We tried a lot of approaches, and this was the absolute best.
